Casco Bay Cruise

Over Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 1, we will enjoy a series of events at nearby Great Chebeague Island.  The weekend will include a day of music, food and fun at the Chebeague Chebang, a bicycle tour of the island, and a group dinner at the Chebeague Island Inn.

On Saturday, August 30, the Chebeague Island Inn is hosting the Chebeague Chebang festival.  Attractions include live music from 4:00 until 9:30 p.m., food and drink specials all day long, and fireworks in the evening.  Admission to the festival entitles you to a free ride on a special Chebeague Transportation Company ferry which departs from Cousins Island at 2:50 p.m. on the 30th.  Although the Chebeague Island Inn's moorings are fully reserved that day, the Inn has offered to pick up any anchored club members in their launch.  Tickets to the Chebeague Chebang are available online at Brown Paper Tickets.

On Sunday, August 31, we will tour Great Chebeague Island by bicycle (weather permitting).  Please note that while the island's roads offer wonderful views and easy riding, they are too rough for many skinny-tired road bikes so a mountain, city or comfort bike is recommended.  The Chebeague Island Inn has bicycles available for loan, as does Great Chebeague's "Bike Man".  Interested cyclists can join us at noon by the Casco Bay Lines ferry pier in Chandler's Cove, or later at other island locations including Chebeague Island Boat Yard and the Chebeague Island Inn; email cruise@pycme.net for further details.

To cap off the weekend, we will have a group dinner at the Chebeague Island Inn on Sunday, August 31 at 6:30 p.m.  The Inn has moorings and launch service which are available to club members attending this event; to make arrangements, please call 207-846-5155.  The Inn also offers a variety of other recreational opportunities, including a golf course, tennis courts and loaner kayaks.

Great Chebeague Island is accessible by private boat or two different ferry services.  For those visiting on their own yachts, moorings are available through the Chebeague Island Inn (see above) or at the Chebeague Island Boat Yard (207-846-4146).  Casco Bay Lines ferries depart for Chebeague from Commercial Street in Portland, and Chebeague Transportation Company operates a ferry from Yarmouth with parking and a shuttle bus available on Route 1 in Cumberland.
